democracy
depends on credible choices
and there is a credibility crisis in canadian politics
-
government
is sick
wheezing with fibrotic inefficiency
panting and shallow
pimping image
instead of policy
because
that's where the votes are
-
the votes
your vote
if it even counts
because of the way we count them
first past the post
the will of the people - well some of the people
it's more like "democracy-esque"
-
fewer than 2/3 of canadians vote anyway
-
and these days
votes and voters list about
in a wasteland of disenfranchised apathy
picking up 30 second sound bites here and there
the odd headline now and then
popular opinion
votes float like scum
swirling and whirling with indifference
on a day to day river of distraction and self indulgence
floating
mindlessly
waiting to be scraped off on election day
by the candidate
with the most compelling sweater

it's an illusion of participation my fiends

my illusion
has one less choice

not that i think he ever approached choice-ability
